Mirena is an intrauterine device (IUD) designed to prevent pregnancy.  A small “T” shaped device is implanted into the uterus and can last up to five years, with the suggested flexibility of removal at any desired time.  Unfortunately for some women, the device is not so easily removed and can cause serious health problems.  Complications include the device perforating the uterus, the device embedding itself inside the uterus, the device migrating from implant placement and the device may require surgical removal.
